Split Pea Soup
1 pound dried peas
1 small green bell pepper, chopped
2 carrots, grated
1 small wedge white cabbage, chopped
A few drops Tabasco sauce
Salt and pepper, to taste
Oil
Soak peas for a few hours or overnight. Discard the water (you can use it to for watering plants). Wash the peas, and cook them in a large pot. Do not use too much water, or your soup will be watery. You can always add more water later. Stir the soup from time to time while it cooks, so it will not burn the bottom of the pan.
Fry cabbage in oil in a pan on high heat, stirring often, until it is lightly brown. Add carrots and bell pepper. Fry until everything is soft. Add some of the pea soup to the fried vegetables and puree this in a blender. Then add the puree to the soup and puree the whole soup.
Add salt, pepper, and Tabasco sauce. Cook for a few more minutes.
